Glynn Heath Coryell, 88, died on Nov. 17, 2017 in Alexandria, Va. Glynn was born on May 8, 1929, in Lexington, the son of Glynn Lawrence Coryell and Allie May (Heath) Coryell, both of Paducah. Glynn grew up in Lebanon, Ind., but frequently visited his four grandparents in Paducah. He liked to say, “I was born in Kentucky, grew up in Indiana, and went to work in Illinois, just like my hero . . . Abraham Lincoln.”

After earning his undergraduate degree from Harvard University in 1951, Glynn served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He earned an M.B.A. from Northwestern University and worked in finance for major corporations in Cincinnati, Chicago, New York, Boston, Nashville, St. Louis, and Harrisburg, Penn. He finished his career as an entrepreneur, owning a travel agency in Falls Church, Va.

Glynn and his former wife, Diane (Dobyns) Coryell, married in 1955 and had two daughters. His passions were music, church, history, travel, his daughters, his grandchildren, and ice cream, especially homemade. His trademarks were his gregarious personality, wholehearted laugh, and beaming smile.

Glynn leaves his daughters, Heather Diane Coryell of Washington, D.C. (Shubham Chaudhuri) and Holly Coryell Smith of Pittsburgh, Penn. (Peter); three grandchildren, Nikhil N. Chaudhuri, Esha D. Chaudhuri, and Estelle D. Smith; a brother, Ritchie B. Coryell of Centreville, Va. (Carol Ann); two sisters, Patricia Humphrey (Scott) of Alexandria, Va., and Crystal Gravely Helbing Austin (James) of Martinsville, Va.; eight nephews and three nieces.

A private funeral will be held on Dec. 1. Glynn will be buried next to his parents in Oak Grove Cemetery, 1613 Park Ave., Paducah. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made in memory of Glynn to “Friday Church” at Highland Baptist Church, 1101 Cherokee Rd, Louisville, KY 40204 or to First Baptist Church of Washington, D.C., 1328 16th St. NW, Washington, D.C. 20036.
