Ferdinand Joseph Hetzel

Ferdinand “Fred” Hetzel, age 86, of Metropolis, IL entered into his heavenly reward on Saturday February 5, 2022.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Helen (Henderson) Hetzel, son Paul (Melissa) Hetzel, sister Josephine (Bong Yohl) Kim, niece Debby (Steve) Bieda, nephew Paul (Tammy) Kim, great niece Megan Bieda and great nephew Brian (Savannah) Kim.

He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Matilda Hetzel, granddaughter Kyra Wall and his beloved dog Dusty.

Fred was proud that he hailed from Brooklyn, NY. His time in Brooklyn ended when he was drafted into the Army, where he was an MP (Military Police). When he was discharged from the army, Fred moved to northwest Indiana, where he would spend the next 50 years. Fred worked at Union Tank Car (Graver Tank Car) in East Chicago, IN for over 40 years as a fitter/welder. Upon retirement, Fred and his wife Mary moved to Metropolis, IL.

Over the years Fred was a part of many different Assemblies of God churches: Merrillville Assembly of God (Living Hope Church), Hessville Assembly of God (Life Point Church), Harvest Ridge Church in St. John, IN and Lighthouse Assembly of God in Metropolis, IL. Fred also greatly enjoyed his time, and more importantly his meals, at Happy Hearts Senior Center in Metropolis, IL.
