James “Dick” Richard Greenwell Jr., was a kindhearted, loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He left this world on Thursday, March 7, 2024, at age 81. He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family and a yard full of Cardinals. His battle with Dementia showed his courage in facing life challenges with a smile and grace. He was a hero and stayed strong until the end.
Dick was born on July 24, 1942, in Evansville, IN. He played the trumpet in his high school band and often played Taps at military funerals and events. He also enjoyed playing golf, a passion he shared with his family growing up. He was smart and a quick learner. His love for mathematics and numbers awarded him a co-op opportunity with Alcoa and eventually a career as a Computer Programmer and System Analyst with Honeywell. He loved his career and worked full time until he was 70 years old. He loved his family and spending time with them. Dick also enjoyed fishing, bird watching and his dogs and cats. He and his wife Kathy were devoted to rescuing cats and providing them loving homes.
