John Louis Averitt, 72, of Brookport died Wednesday, July 8, 2009, at Metropolis Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Metropolis.
A memorial service will be held from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday, July 10, 2009, at Lindsey Funeral Home in Paducah, Ky.
John was a boilermaker and mechanic who also loved to work on cars and hunt and fish.
Mr. Averitt is survived by one son, William Dale Averitt of Troy, Mo.; two daughters, Sheryl Lee Metzger of Paducah and Tina Funk of Brookport; seven grandchildren, Candice, Brandon, Heather, Brian, Brandy, John Robert and Austin; one brother, Bobby Joe Averitt of Marshall County, Ky.; four sisters, Wanda Rybolt of Tennessee, Mary Don Hultman of Metropolis, Oma Lee Burgess of Paducah and Shirley Grogan of Sonora, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Neva Lou (Morris) Averitt; his parents, David Louis and Edna Myrtle (McKendree) Averitt; one son, Glenn Allen Averitt; three brothers; and one sister.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Lourdes Hospice, 2855 Jackson St., Paducah, KY 42001.
