Mary Catherine (Kay) Aguilar, 84, of Metropolis went home to rest with our Lord and Savior at her residence with family by her side after a courageous battle with cancer on Thursday, April 18th, 2024 at her home.
She was born January 6th, 1940 to Alexander and Frances (Lance) Schott in Mt. Vernon, IL
Mary started her working career as a surgical nurse and went on to have a long tenure in civil service, retiring from Social Security Administration in 2006 when she moved from Aurora, IL to Metropolis, IL She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Metropolis, IL and Midwest Soarring that strives to maintain the traditions of the Native American Indians. She donated over the years to many causes for children, animals and others in need knowing how blessed she was.
Mary was passionate about her little pups, Angel and Snoopy, as well as those who passed before her. They will now be cared for by her loving family.
She is survived by her five loving children: Carl Max (Shirley) Staples, Steven (Michele) Staples, James (Kristine) Staples, Jerald Staples and Donna (Dave) Mason. She was blessed by and loved many grandchildren, great grandchildren, family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, the love of her life, Rozendo (Rozi) Aguilar in 2016. Her parents Alex and Frances, and step-mother, Alvera Schott. Her brothers, Ronald Sutliff and Morris A. Schott.
A mass will be held Friday April 26th, 2024 at 10:00 am at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Metropolis, IL, burial will be immediately following at Metropolis Memorial Gardens.
