Ronnie Joe Hicks

May 16, 1947 — October 26, 2023

Paducah

Ronnie Joe Hicks of Paducah passed away on October 26, 2023, at Baptist Health in Paducah.

Ronnie was born in Paducah, KY on May 16, 1947.  He worked as a Chief Engineer for several different companies in the river industry that spanned over 35 years.  After his career on the river, he was a volunteer fire fighter for over 20 years, with the Lone Oak Fire Department.  He was known as Dad and Poppy to his family but superman or a hero to so many others. As I sit and write this, I am seeing posts on social media from so many people I don’t know that loved dad.  One stated “That man fed me and didn’t even know who I was”.  This is just one small example of the kind of person he was.  Benevolence was his true character as he spent his entire life serving others.  No words can describe the amount of love he had for his family, friends, and strangers on the street.  His grandson Cameron stated that “Poppy was the pilar of our family”. That statement could never be more true.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Terri Hicks of Paducah, KY; one son, Ronnie D. (Jackie) Hicks, one daughter, Cindy (Rick) Hall, nine grandchildren; Shayna Ruud, Cameron Snelling, Taylor Wainscott, Jackson Hicks, Jace Hicks, Serenity Hicks, Erin Andrews, Anna Yuan, Jacob Vied, and 11 great grandchildren.  He is also survived by one brother, Bobby Thomasson, two sisters: Sue Hall (Billy) Kirkpatrick, Loneda (Don) Muller, and one brother-in-law Gary Dale (Nina) Wood.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe Ed Hicks and Eunice Ware, and one brother, Wyman Thomasson.

No services are planned at this time.
