Edward Spencer Funkhouser, 80, of Metropolis, IL passed away on Friday, August 5, 2022, at his residence.

He was retired from Choate Mental Health as Chief Engineer. He was a member of the Moose Lodge in Anna. He was an avid sports fan always supporting his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed giving back to the children in the community by helping build the baseball diamonds in Anna City Park and starting the youth football league in Union County.

Surviving is his wife of 58 years, Karen Funkhouser of Metropolis; two sons, Wayne Funkhouser of Anna and Blaine (Stacy) Funkhouser of Carlinville; two sisters, Jane Ginn of DuQuion and Ellen Cicardi of Pinckneyville; two grandchildren, Wyatt Davis Funkhouser and Ridge Tyler Funkhouser; one sister in law, Mary (Lee) McRoy of Evansville, IN and his two best friends, Kenny (Carol) Dillow and Jim (Sandy) Carter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward W. Funkhouser and Gladys Musgrave Funkhouser; four siblings, Clarence Funkhouser, Cleo Hagston, Cuma O’Keefe, and Leo Wayne Funkhouser; and his father and mother in law, Porter and Maxine Leslie.

Private family memorial services will be held to honor his requests.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a local youth sports league of your choice.
